چکیده

We use the doped Fullerenes as an example of how realistic systems can be described by simple models. Starting from the band structure we set up a tight-binding model that describes the t1u conduction band. Adding correlation terms we arrive at a generalized Hubbard Hamiltonian that we treat using quantum Monte Carlo. To address the problem of superconductivity in the doped Fullerenes, we study the screening of a point charge. We find surprisingly efficient metallic screening even for strong correlations, almost up to the Mott transition, and discuss the implications on superconductivity, in particular the effect of the efficient screening on the Coulomb pseudopotential and the electron-phonon coupling.

What makes the Tc of monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3 so high: a sign-problem-free quantum Monte Carlo study

Monolayer FeSe films grown on SrTiO3 (STO) substrate show superconducting gap-opening temperatures ([Formula: see text]) which are almost an order of magnitude higher than those of the bulk FeSe and are highest among all known Fe-based superconductors. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy observed "replica bands" suggesting the importance of the interaction between FeSe electrons and STO p...

Effect of strong correlations on the high energy anomaly in hole- and electron-doped high-Tc superconductors

Recently, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) has been used to highlight an anomalously large band renormalization at high binding energies in cuprate superconductors: the high energy “waterfall” or high energy anomaly (HEA). This paper demonstrates, using a combination of new ARPES measurements and quantum Monte Carlo simulations, that the HEA is not simply the byproduct of matri...

Monte Carlo Simulation of Multiplication Factor in PIN In0.52Al0.48As Avalanche Photodiodes

In this paper, we calculate electron and hole impactionization coefficients in In0.52Al0.48As using a Monte Carlo modelwhich has two valleys and two bands for electrons and holesrespectively. Also, we calculate multiplication factor for electronand hole initiated multiplication regimes and breakdown voltagein In0.52Al0.48As PIN avalanche photodiodes. To validate themodel, we compare our simulat...

Quantum Monte Carlo study of a dominant s-wave pairing symmetry in iron-based superconductors.

We perform a systematic quantum Monte Carlo study of the pairing correlation in the S(4) symmetric microscopic model for iron-based superconductors. It is found that the pairing with an extensive s-wave symmetry robustly dominates over other pairings at low temperature in a reasonable parameter region regardless of the change of Fermi surface topologies. The pairing susceptibility, the effectiv...

SISSA ISAS SCUOLA INTERNAZIONALE SUPERIORE DI STUDI AVANZATI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES Superconductivity from strong electron correlation

The strong electron electron correlation in the Copper Oxygen layers of the high temperature superconductors has been suggested as a possible explanation for the occurrence of superconductivity in these materials. Under this assumption a proposed model to describe the interplay between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity is the two dimensional t J model. In this thesis the ground state pro...
